Welcome
Bennetts Associates is an award-winning architectural practice with a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from major urban developments to educational, cultural and public buildings, transport infrastructure, and refurbishments.
The practice has achieved architectural recognition through more than sixty awards and its work is regularly published. In 2006, Bennetts Associates was awarded the UK Architectural Practice of the Year and a new book entitled "Bennetts Associates-Four Commentaries" was published by Black Dog Publishing.
The firm's design process ensures that technical innovation, performance and delivery are given as much weight as the conventional values of form, space and light.
History
Bennetts Associates was formed in 1987. Initial projects included the Institute of Contemporary Arts and a conservation project in central London, but the firm quickly established a track record of larger scale projects such as a sequence of headquarters for corporate clients that pioneered new thinking in the commercial sector. The firm’s portfolio has subsequently embraced theatres, educational buildings, transport infrastructure, hotels and housing and many other sectors. Bennetts Associates is now 96 strong, with offices in London and Edinburgh. The firm's work now extends to all parts of the UK from Inverness to Brighton, and a major project is taking shape in Amsterdam.
Office
Bennetts Associates' development is characterised by gradual expansion, low staff turnover and careful management of design processes. A strong team ethic, methodical approach to design and sense of enjoyment are central to the firm's exceptional track record of consistent delivery on time and budget, whilst over 60 awards for all aspects of design and construction bear testament to the quality of its output. Bennetts Associates London office development, completed in 2002, demonstrates many of the lessons learned in larger projects. A similar approach was adopted for the relocation of Bennetts Associates' Edinburgh office in the summer, 2005.

With a total over 90 employees, the firm has seven Directors - Rab Bennetts, Denise Bennetts, Julian Lipscombe, John Miller, Simon Erridge, David Laing and David Henderson and two Associate Directors - Nick Dodd and Richard Warwick. Approach
Bennetts Associates applies an open, collaborative design process consistently across all projects to deliver workable buildings and masterplans that exceed the expectations of those who commission the projects.
Bennetts Associates' approach is defined therefore by a series of seven key principles: Diversity, Analysis, Integration, Delight, Sustainability, Collaboration and Delivery
Management
An orderly production process underpinned by dedicated management resources has enabled Bennetts Associates to achieve an exceptionally high level of delivery on all projects.
The practice's growth has been controlled so Directors and Associate Directors retain hands-on involvement through all stages of projects. Also, in the interests of consistency and co-ordination, design teams are encouraged to stay together wherever practicable. The Practice Manager also assists with design team programming on all projects.
Bennetts Associates applies an open, collaborative design process consistently across all projects to deliver workable buildings and masterplans that exceed the expectations of those who commission the projects.
The practice believes it is essential to analyse the problem before settling on a solution. Alternative solutions posed by a brief are always considered for their strengths and weaknesses before being adopted.
Design studies are presented at team meetings so that all parties can contribute to a common commitment to the design solution with Bennetts Associates providing overall direction and leadership.
