James joined Bennetts Associates in 2004 and became an associate director in 2014. He has worked on a number of award-winning projects, including the Potterrow Development at the University of Edinburgh and the Suttie Centre at the University of Aberdeen. He is particularly skilled in briefing and concept design and is a natural communicator. James’ portfolio includes providing strategic guidance and briefing services to clients including the Hunterian Museum and the University of Glasgow. He has helped to develop proposals for a 140-acre regeneration framework in central Manchester. James recently led the design of an exciting new members’ facility for the Guardian and proposals for the redevelopment of Edinburgh Central Library. He is presently working on a project for a major manufacturing company in Warwickshire.
In addition to his project roles, James is a member of Bennetts Associates’ Sustainability Working Group and coordinates Health and Safety within the practice. He is a visiting critic at Edinburgh School of Architecture and a Non-executive Director at Edinburgh Printmakers.
James believes that consideration for the human scale drives transformational change, irrespective of the scale of work.
