In a recently published article on Building Magazine titled 'Rethinking Design: putting the fun back into the future', Director Simon Erridge gave his insight on how the hospitality and leisure sectors will adapt to post-covid restrictions but continue to be a place for excitement, wellbeing and social interaction.
The article mentions our built projects such as Storyhouse, The Old Vic Theatre and in-progress projects including Woolwich Creative District and Hertford Theatre as key examples. The future of cultural venues will see them be a place for multi-experience and a contribution to the local community; something that is intertwined in the design of cultural projects at Bennetts Associates. The effect of Covid has reiterated this in a larger scale and as Simon highlights, the venues that have fared best during lockdown and uncertainty are those that can serve multiple purposes.
“It’s not just about offering a night out or an evening performance, but about being civically engaged, all-day venues for everybody in the community and contributing to the town’s identity. I think culture will play a really critical part in the rebirth of urban centres,” - Simon Erridge
