After three months of lockdown, it is fantastic to see construction of Citizens Theatre in Glasgow is getting underway again on site. In line with government guidance, the construction site was forced to close in March 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic crisis unfolded. By the time of the lockdown, the demolition of the external was completed on site ready for the new building work to start.
'The Coronavirus pandemic has caused delay and progress back on site might be slower than we had originally anticipated, but it is extremely heartening to finally get work underway again.' - Graham Sutherland, Head of Production at Citizens Theatre.
The refurbishment of the beloved theatre will improve visitor, performer and staff experiences, ensuring the treasured Victorian venue remains central to culture and community in Glasgow. Once completed, the newly redeveloped theatre will restore a historic part of Glasgow’s cultural heritage, enabling more people to engage in its Learning programme, and host a bigger and better programme of productions.
