On the 20th of September, Bennetts Associates will support the youth climate movement and join in the Global Climate Strike.
On the day we will encourage staff to join any non-violent protests organised by the student climate strike movement and will use time together in the office to highlight the issues within our own business.
The student strikes have been an inspiration to all of us who care deeply about these issues. Despite legislation for long term targets, there is little indication of real change in government policy on the horizon and as such we feel that joining the strike it is the right thing to do.
Bennetts Associates has long advocated for strong action on climate change in our designs and our business. We are the first architects in the world to have approved science-based targets and are founding members of the UK Green Building Council. We were also the first to be a part of the United Nations Climate Neutral now campaign, where we report all of our carbon emissions from coffee to staff commutes and business travel, seek to create ambitious reductions in these emissions, and then finally offset all remaining emissions. This leadership extends into our designs, demonstrated by a long history of exemplar sustainable projects alongside a current selection of projects where we are pushing for Net Zero and beyond.
We recognise that we can and must go further, to use our business to catalyse change across the industry, across our employees, and the people who we work with. Joining the Global Climate Strike is part of us continuing to ramp up of our ambition. There will be more.
