Bennetts Associates are marking the U.N's International Youth Day 2019 with our work experience placements. We have teamed up with education and business partnerships such as Inspire!, Camden STEAM and The Stephen Lawrence Trust to find pupils for week long placements. We aim to give the students an insight into the architectural profession by setting them a design brief and encouraging creative problem solving through sketching, physical model making and using visualisation software. Alongside this we take them on a site visit to see a construction site in action and invite them along to any relevant meetings, training or CPD sessions.
The placements links to one of our 20 sustainability targets for 2022, whereby we have committed to have at least two work experience students from local schools or schemes and that these would make up at least 50% of our placements. In our first year we have exceeded both these targets.
Grace Taylor, one of our architectural staff involved in the mentoring of these pupils, said: "We had a fantastic response from the students involved, resulting in exciting design projects and a developed interest in architecture/Having joined the profession after an inspiring work experience at a similar age, it was rewarding to introduce the construction industry to the next generation."
