It has recently been announced that the Knowledge Quarter Board has formally solidified a project with the stated aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. There will be a collective focus within the partners of the KQ to develop a framework for collaboration and to work together to rise to the challenge of reversing climate change.
'A framework for collaboration, flexible and continuously evolving over time, serves two purposes: firstly, it provides the tools by which individual organisations can maintain these basic commitments; and secondly, it creates an eco-system in which organisations can push one another towards a net-zero target by 2030. Ultimately, this framework will complement existing strategies, and help organisations and local government meet and surpass their own targets.'
The meeting in October will be the first of the newly formed Advisory Group comprising senior representatives of organisations with the largest physical presence in the Knowledge Quarter and chaired by Bennetts Associates Director Peter Fisher. Together with Peter's wealth of experience on architecture and sustainability, they will focus on meeting a carbon neutral target.
"This is a fantastic initiative from the KQ and I’m delighted to be asked to chair. The bringing together of such a large and high profile – yet geographically concentrated – group of organisations to look at how to collectively reduce carbon emissions, is enormously significant." - Peter Fisher, Director Bennetts Associates
