(30 Years in Practice event): how do you revitalise a city’s cultural life with a single building?

Yesterday afternoon Bennetts Associates’ project team hosted a building tour and reception at Storyhouse in Chester for our north west friends (and a few from the south).

Storyhouse has brought a purpose-built theatre and cinema back to the city of Chester after a 10-year absence and has also created a ground-breaking new city library which is spread throughout the building. It is open morning, afternoon and evening seven days a week and represents a revolution in the way civic, public buildings operate.

Storyhouse opened in May this year. After one month there have been 78,000 visitors, 10,000 books checked out, 1,000 new library cards, 9,800 cups of coffee, 100+ cinema screenings and 30+ theatre shows.
