We've found out our Sports Hall, King's Cross submission into the Structural Timber Awards this year for 'Architect of the year' has been highly commended. Meanwhile we are pleased to that BAM had won 'Contractor of the Year'. Congratulations to all for this successful project collaboration!
'The King’s Cross Sports Hall is an all-timber building with ‘near zero’ embodied carbon with a sub-structure that rests gently on the rail tunnels serving King’s Cross. The building has been designed for multiple lives – it is highly adaptable with a long lifespan. Ultimately becoming a community sports facility for LB Camden, its first life will be as a construction skills centre providing local people with access to training and jobs. The warm and welcoming timber interior has key spaces (the gym suite and sports hall) arranged on either side of a spine of interconnected social spaces. Externally a zinc-clad shell with a serrated roofline evokes the former rail sheds of the Goods YardWest Handyside Canopy.'
