Bennetts Associates have been appointment for a 400,000sq ft, sustainability-led workplace in Bankside, London.
Situated on either side of a new pedestrian route off Lavington Street, two contrasting office buildings will be created by retaining part of the existing printworks and using off-site manufacturing techniques to form a low carbon innovative workplace supported by a lively mix of cafes, event spaces and stalls.Occupiers will also benefit from communal areas and landscaped terraces with views over London, providing opportunities for meetings and a variety of work settings.
Peter Fisher, Director at Bennetts Associates, said: “This project has the potential to be a game changer for our industry. With Bennetts Associates’ long track record in sustainability and Landsec’s commitment to both sustainability and innovation, we intend to push boundaries in office design. The projects’ adjacency to some of Bankside’s railway viaducts will also provide an opportunity to extend the area’s vibrant and diverse urban backdrop with new public spaces and retail amenities.”
Ross Sayers, Development Director at Landsec, said: “Lavington Street will be a building for the future, and will demonstrate our commitment to pursuing ambitious, science-based carbon and energy reduction goals. Working with Bennetts Associates, an architectural practice with a legacy in sustainability means we will create an excellent destination for work and leisure – an addition to the evident success of Bankside as a vibrant destination.”
Lavington Street builds on Bennetts Associates’ track record of nearly thirty years as pioneers of sustainability within the built environment. A number of the practices’ award-winning projects have acted as exemplars for sustainable architecture – 5 Pancras Square for the London Borough of Camden achieved a BREAAM rating of 97.6%, the highest ever at the time of its completion. Currently on site, Facebook’s new London HQ in King’s Cross, 11-21 Canal Reach, is also pushing the boundaries of embodied energy and well-being.
Bennetts Associates is the first architect in the world with approved Science Based Targets. Landsec is the first property company globally to achieve the same accreditation.
Planning application for the scheme is due to be submitted in December 2019.
