Woolwich Works Wins

Awards

Our project Woolwich Works has been announced as a winner in this year's NLA Awards!

30.11.2022

Completed in 2021, our vision for a new cultural destination located in the Royal Arsenal was about giving new life to a series of disused ex-military and Grade II listed buildings. Now opened to the public for over a year, we are proud to announce Woolwich Works has picked up a NLA Award in the conservation category!

A “light touch” approach was maintained throughout the design and build process. The existing character and layout were retained, and the completed scheme is innately recognisable as former factory buildings. Heritage and limited intervention were prioritised due to its rich history and in turn, the integrity and underlying qualities shine through. Now with the new Elizabeth line opened with routes to central London, Woolwich Works is now connected to a far larger audience base.

Woolwich Works hosts flexible spaces for performances, rehearsals, conferences, wedding receptions, parties, meetings, community events and is home to world-famous shows including Punch Drunk's Burnt City.

We worked closely with the council’s planning offices, Historic England, conservation architect Consarc. Together, we identified the types of uses and tenants that would work well with the existing layout, rather than undertaking significant works to the buildings to accommodate the requirements of less aligned purposes.
