The Centre for Health Science offers interdisciplinary education for all healthcare professions, as a result of the National Health Service’s desire for greater integration of healthcare education within a multi-professional environment. It was the first building in Scotland to fully embody this new delivery model.

Key requirements included: expanded teaching accommodation for the University of Stirling who primarily provides undergraduate teaching of nurses; expanded office accommodation for NES who have a broad remit to provide CPD for all health disciplines; teaching and clinical accommodation for dentistry; a Clinical Skills Centre to provide simulation and teaching space for all health disciplines and research and incubator offices and light laboratories for specific research organisations, but also to provide further research spin-off and business start-up accommodation

Shared facilities include a Learning Resources Centre, Lecture Theatres, Dining, IT Support and a Café. Significant users include the University of Stirling, Highland Acute and Primary Health Trusts, the NHS Education Services for Scotland.

The project was completed in two phases. Bennetts Associates obtained planning approval for both phases and completed RIBA Stage D for Phase 1 and RIBA Stage C for Phase 2. The project was then constructed by ROK plc under a Prime Contractor framework.
