An innovative mix of television studios and workspaces in central Manchester.
Two recording studios are proposed at ground floor level, surrounded by cafes, bars and audience areas. A large transfer structure allows the studios to co-exist with four floors of open-plan office space above, capped with three floors of innovative smaller work spaces, each featuring their own external terrace. An expressed steel structure, draws inspiration from Victorian market halls and heroic viaducts nearby.
We were approached to carry out a feasibility, building on our experience in Manchester. Whilst the project is not progressing, it has allowed the practice to evolve ideas on a range of themes such as expressed steel structures (akin to Devonshire Square and Jaguar Land Rover) and transfer structures (akin to 5 Pancras Square), as well as the nature of performance spaces and city life.
