The Apex is a 100,000ft2 hub for science which will be home to a cluster of emerging biotech companies. Six floors of flexible lab, write-up and social space is available to rent under the management of two of the UK’s leading research bodies; the Crick Institute, and the London Bioscience Innovation Centre (LBIC). As well as providing facilities for the occupiers, The Crick and LBIC will offer business support and access to their wider funding and research ecosystems.
Conceived as a contemporary warehouse, and sitting directly on the canal edge. Its deep brick façade follows the curve of the canal and is punctuated with a grid of large windows, External terraces are set within window openings on the corners of the upper floors offering views down the length of the canal. Above the main brick façade, the upper two floors are clad with vertical fins and the upper block is set back to create a generous planted roof terrace facing the canal.
The level change between St Pancras Way and the canal creates the opportunity for a double-height reception area leading to a split-level café overlooking the canal which is the key social space in the building.
Cellular labs and write-up space occupy the upper floors of the building with individual tenancies ranging from 500 to 1800 ft2. The building can accommodate labs at Containment Level 2 on floors with a vibration response factor of 1 and the building has capacity for up to twenty ducted fume cabinets.
