Harry Sumner

Harry is passionate about delivering resilient, regenerative buildings and advocates for an integrated approach to architectural design. He joined Bennetts Associates in 2023 to strengthen the practice’s in-house sustainability capabilities. He has oversight of sustainability across the practice’s live and completed projects, providing technical support to teams navigating the challenges of designing, delivering and verifying net zero buildings. In addition to embedded project support, he has led bespoke sustainability services for a range of clients, including the development of sustainable design guidance, carbon assessments, and Building Performance Evaluations (BPE) across a range of our projects. He recently led the testing of a number of projects against the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard Pilot and brings knowledge of applying the standard to future projects.

Harry’s support is practical, timely and outcomes focused prioritising meaningful impact over the traditional tick-box exercises. As part of the technical support group, he has played a key role in embedding carbon considerations into the practice’s design processes and coordinates the ongoing development of our studios’ material libraries. Alongside his role within the practice, Harry lectures in Sustainable Construction and Materials at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL) and actively supports collaboration between academia and practice.
