One Practice, Three Studios
Bennetts Associates was founded in London in 1987 by Rab and Denise Bennetts. Since then, we have grown naturally with our portfolio, with every project deepening our relationships and understanding of place.
Today, we operate as one practice across three studios: London, Edinburgh and Manchester. Each has its own character, informed by the local team (and climate), but we collaborate as if we were sitting together. We share the same values, ways of working and ambitions on net zero. Our structure is designed to make the most of this local knowledge and national reach; we can bring a broader perspective and wider network to deliver projects successfully across the UK and beyond.
Employee Owned
We’re 100% employee-owned. In the day-to-day life of the studio, this translates into a greater sense of shared purpose, accountability in leadership and openness. Decisions are transparent and everyone has a voice.
Team
Working across London, Manchester and Edinburgh we are a team of visionaries, creatives and strategists paving the way for a better world of architecture.

Awards
Recognition for our work is always shared with our team, clients and collaborators. We have earned three Stirling Prize nominations, five RIBA National Awards and the RIAS Andrew Doolan Award, along with many regional honours. In the commercial sector, our workplaces have won BCO Awards for innovation. The longevity of our projects has been recognised by Architecture Today’s awards for buildings that stand the test of time. We were recipients of the Prix de Versailles, an international honour for beauty in architecture; a reminder that while our focus might be social and environmental performance, there is visual and tactile pleasure in resourcefulness.
Partnerships
It’s impossible to see the work of any architect in isolation. When buildings account for such a high proportion of carbon emissions, we have a responsibility to lead by example and advocate for industry change. This can’t be done alone either, so we have been formative in establishing the partnerships that can advance progress. Our network of peers, industry groups, charities and collaborating organisations extends across and beyond our sector. We helped to establish the UK Green Building Council in 2006. We led the way in adopting Science Based Targets. We were the first UK company to buy carbon removal, through Biochar – in doing so, supporting them to invest, innovate and increase their impact.
