Simon is interested in architecture’s ability to positively
influence life in towns and cities, whether its making masterplans, designing
hybrid workspace and events buildings, or creating a new breed of all-day
cultural hubs and performance venues. The common theme across all of his
projects is the creation of places and buildings which encourage ownership,
human interaction and shared experiences.
Masterplans such as Tribeca (previously known as The Ugly Brown Building) in Camden’s Knowledge Quarter will create new mixed-use neighbourhoods with buildings which can flexibly accommodate living, workplace and labs uses whilst knitting themselves into their existing settings.
Many of Simon’s projects have involved additions and transformations of existing historic buildings including the Stirling Prize shortlisted Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shaftesbury Theatre, Storyhouse and The Old Vic, his depth of knowledge in theatre and performing arts is the result of over twenty years’ experience in the sector.
Simon’s recent projects for medical Royal Colleges have highlighted the importance of focusing on flexible social spaces for sharing knowledge alongside individual working environments. Its these kinds of spaces that will grow in importance as we seek design solutions for a post-covid world.
