Julian Lipscombe

Julian Lipscombe has been at the heart of Bennetts Associates’ evolution for more than three decades. Joining the practice in its formative years, he has helped shape its values, design ethos and reputation. His work spans scales and sectors, from strategic masterplans to considered civic buildings. The common thread is a belief in the power of design to improve people’s lives through humane architecture that is enduring, deeply rooted in its context and responsive to its climate.

Julian’s portfolio is broad and international in scope. In the UK, he has led the Jaguar Land Rover Global Headquarters in Warwickshire (a RIBA National Award winner) and has worked on the HS2 Strategic Regeneration Frameworks in Manchester, the refurbishment of the former ITN building at 200 Gray’s Inn Road and a state-of-the-art manufacturing base for Norton Motorcycles in Solihull. Internationally, he has led our expanding operations overseas with projects in Greece and India such as Generali Group Headquarters in Athens, Anatolia College Masterplan in Thessaloniki and TVS Guest Welcome Centre in Bangalore.

As Director of the Manchester studio and leader of the practice’s People group, Julian helps to ensure we nurture talent and keep our unique open, collaborative culture.  Beyond project work, Julian is a recognised public speaker, regularly lecturing in the UK and abroad.
